On 7 July 2024, members of the Greater Springfield Rotary Club, friends and closest supporters of the club gathered for our annual change over event at Springlake Hotel. We celebrated the remarkable work of outgoing President David Goss and the board for their exemplary leadership and unwavering dedication over the past two years and welcomed the 2024/25 incoming President Kacie Howard and her new board.
Distinguished guests Mayor Teresa Harding, Charis Mullen MP, Senator Paul Scarr, Shayne Neumann MP and Darren Zanow MP honoured us with their presence. Their encouragement and commitment to the values and mission of Rotary are evidenced by their continued participation and unwavering support at many of our club’s initiatives.
Our club, having just celebrated our 10th birthday has a relatively short but rich history, built on the foundation of Rotary’s core principles: Service Above Self, Fellowship, Diversity, Integrity, and Leadership. We owe a great deal to our past presidents and members who have tirelessly worked to make a difference in our community, and many local businesses and partner organisations who have helped drive great causes forward.
Our members bring a myriad of experiences and strengths that contribute to keeping the club vibrant and our contributions impactful. The club received the 2023 Jordan Greats 'Community Group' Award as part of the Queensland Day Awards. Over the past year, we have had many significant accomplishments.
- Partnership with Ipswich City Rotary club to charter an Ipswich Region Rotaract club, which will assist in future proofing Rotary in our region.
- Partnership with Westside Community Care to deliver our local Back to School drive which resulted in over 200 local children starting school with much needed school supplies.
- International service projects including our involvement in Wheelchairs to Mongolia and supporting REACH Siam Reap, a grassroots organisation supporting education in Cambodia - extending our club’s impact beyond Greater Springfield.
- Annual Four Way Test Youth Speech Competition held between local schools and continued support to youth participants in various Rotary Youth programs.
- Participation in local community events including Lift the Lid Park Run, the Mo-men’s Mo-Tor Man’s Car Show Father’s Day events, and the Australia Day event at AVEO Springfield.
- Community engagement and fundraising through several Bunnings BBQs and weekly Meat-tray Raffle at Ballistic Springfield enabling our contribution to local and international initiatives.
This year, we embrace a new theme that encapsulates the spirit of what we strive to achieve: "The Magic of Rotary." The magic of seeing smiles on the faces of children we help, the gratitude of those whose lives are touched by our service, and the deep bonds we form as Rotarians. This year we are focused on strengthening our presence in the local community, establish stronger relationships with other local rotary clubs and ensure the continuity of our social fellowship which is a cornerstone of our club identity. We have many amazing initiatives in motion and lined up for the year. Together through the year of the Magic of Rotary, Greater Springfield Rotary with continue to achieve great things.
